ETF 2016: Meal Sponsorships

scenic venues for your camo-inspiredwedding

Yesterday, our very last plate of food for Eiding The Feast 2016 was delivered to our chosen beneficiaries.

Many people thought we were a little crazy trying to sponsor about 2500 meals in a span of 1 week to 6 different homes. At some point, I think Yasmeen, Kit and I also thought the same of our plan.

So many fears -Would we raise enough money? Would we sell enough cake? Would people come for savoury items?  Would people even come? Every night, I would have all sorts of weird strange dreams including one involving me standing with yellow balloons and no one coming to Eiding The Feast 2016.

But someone up there must have had our back this entire time, pushing us along because we managed to raise almost $18,000 in total, and this in a span of 3.5 hours!

Our bake sale was held on 18th June 2016 and our first meal donations went out on the 23rd June 2016 to our chosen beneficiaries.

This year, we had individual sponsors who came forward to cover the cost of meals on certain days and we also partnered with local business owners who prepared scrumptious meals for the children at affordable prices.

  1. Butterscotch Cafe

This year, we decided to approach Butterscotch Cafe to see if they were interested to partner with us for Eiding The Feast 2016 and we are so thankful that they did! Their food looked and tasted amazing and the homes gave us raving reviews about the chicken chop dish and the beef bolognese that they prepared and delivered to each home for us. I’ve personally eaten there before and enjoyed their food, and I’ve just discovered that they do delivery too!

2. Rem.i’nis

The husband and wife team behind this lovely Tex-Mex place are two of the most down to earth and generous people. Although they specialise in Tex-Mex flavours, when we approached them to prepare something that was carb-heavy for the kids to break their fast with, they readily came up with two rice dishes – a fish and rice dish with sauce and veggie and a spicy chicken and rice dish (ayam masak merah) . On top of all of this, they also did not charge us for delivery at all and were so generous in their portion sizes. Cooked with love, I’ll say.

They are such a young and entrepreneurial couple, I can’t wait to try the new dishes on their menu! (I have eaten there at least once a month since they’ve opened for business)

3. The Shepherd’s Pie

The Shepherd’s Pie has been a firm friend of Eiding The Feast since we first began in 2014! They were one of the first people we approched to partner with us back then and remain one of the nicest and easiest people to work with. What I love is that their food always looks so appetizing. They also pack the beef pies in individual servings for us to make it easy for the homes during meal distribution! Teddy and his team have always given us their support and we hope that we can give back to them in some way or another! It’s also super easy to order with their online form , so yay!

4. Pizza De France

Since we all work full-time jobs, having a fuss-free order method is extremely important to us! When trying to decide where we can order from, aside from just the taste of the dishes, whether we can place advanced orders is also important for us! Luckily for us, Pizza De France was able to do that for us! Imagine having to place pizza orders for 2000 individual meals – Hawaiian Classic, Pepperoni Classic, Mozerella Classic and a few more! They were prompt and professional to work with and we had little to no worries about the food donations in their hands! Pizza is something the kids really really love so knew we had to order extra boxes just in case!

5. McDonald’s Singapore

Which kid doesn’t love McDonald’s? Golden french fries, delicious burgers… we all could do with a junk food fix during Ramadan , after a long day of fasting! We asked the homes what their residents would love to eat and based on their preferences, we placed orders for McChicken meals and Cheeseburger Meals. Some of the homes also asked if the kids could have Coke (this is a luxury for them in-house) or Iced Milo, so we were happy to oblige! At the end of the day, knowing that the kids had a great meal is really all that matters to us.

6. KFC Singapore

We were also told that the kids loved KFC and since we had a budget to work with, we called KFC and spoke with Ilhan, who manages their corporate orders. Ilhan customised a menu for us consisting of a zinger burger, mashed potatoes and an egg tart for child we were sponsoring a meal for. They also made it extremely easy for us to make a mass order across the 7 days and we didn’t have to worry about anything!

Saddad and his team, have supported Eiding The Feast since Day 1, guiding us on how we can portion out kebabs for the younger kids so that we don’t incur so much food wastage. We’ve always gone back to them because we trust their work, how punctual they are and how easy it is to work with them. Their food is always so appetizing and well-prepared that it’s not at all difficult to understand why we keep returning to place more orders. Since the kids often have rice dishes, we try and vary what they receive for iftar and the kebabs help to give them a taste of something different during iftar! This year, EpiKEBABS have also so kindly declined to charge us for delivery as their way of contributing to Eiding The Feast 2016. For that, and for so many other reasons, my team is extremely grateful.

Working with like-minded food vendors who understand the aim of our food donations and respect the choices and decisions that we make is truly a blessing. They are open to changes, and continuously provide excellent service, which makes us want to be able to give back to them even more.

As our food donations for 2016 comes to a close, I hope you, dear reader, are feeling overwhelmed with how the cupcake you purchased, or the lemper ayam that you bought during Eiding The Feast 2016 has gone such a long, long way in ensuring food fills the tummies of the little ones.

Reading this piece in The New Paper on this boy’s wish to break fast with his mother reminds me time and time again why the team must continue with the work that we do. Every cent and every dollar that we make from the sales go straight to feeding children like him and it is with that intention that I hope we’ll be able to bring Eiding The Feast back next year, in 2017. While we may not be able to provide them with  exactly what they need, I hope, through food, we can help fill some void in their heart.

Thank you everyone for making our charity food bazaar another roaring success and we hope, we’ll see all of you again in 2017, God willing.

Your friend,
